About
NICOWL is a Hungarian medtech startup developing an AI-powered intelligent video surveillance system for Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). Our technology uses computer vision and machine learning to automatically assess infant positioning, detect crying episodes, monitor sleep-wake states, and track developmental movement patterns—reducing nurse workload while improving care quality. With clinical validation data (1 year processed recordings) approaching human-level agreement (F1 0.84–0.87, AUROC 0.91–0.93) and a phased MDR certification strategy (Class I core features, Class IIa/IIb AI modules), we seek consortium partners for addressing AI in healthcare, digital tools for vulnerable populations, workflow optimization in clinical settings, and regulatory science for patient-centered health technologies.
We offer expertise in real-world NICU visual AI deployment,—and seek clinical partners (hospitals, neonatal research networks), AI/ML research institutions, health economics and implementation science experts, and regulatory affairs specialists to validate, scale, and deploy our innovation across Europe.
