Technology‑Mediated Care: Safeguarding Relationships Through Qualitative Insight
Strategic Lead for Healthcare Innovation at Odisee
Brussel, Belgium
About
I offer qualitative research expertise to support projects on technology‑mediated care, with a specific interest on how digital tools (e.g., platforms, sensors, AI decision support, telecare) transform the interpersonal care relationship and the conditions for dignified care. From a phenomenological perspective, I examine lived experiences of patients, informal carers, and professionals—what technology does in everyday practice, how it is felt, negotiated, and morally interpreted. Using a grounded theory approach, I translate these insights into empirically grounded concepts and actionable design and implementation guidance.
Within a consortium, I can take responsibility for the qualitative work package: study design, ethics and governance for sensitive contexts, fieldwork (interviews, observations, focus groups, diaries), coding and theory building, and integration of qualitative findings with technical and clinical workstreams. My role typically sits at the intersection of evaluation, co‑creation, and implementation, ensuring that technological innovation strengthens trust and professional judgement in care.
I am looking for partners developing or piloting care technologies who want to embed relationship‑centred, dignified care into their innovation pathway, especially (1) care organisations (hospitals, home care, long‑term care) willing to serve as living labs for real‑world inquiry, (2) SMEs/industry building digital health solutions open to iterative, evidence‑informed refinement, and (3) patient and caregiver organisations to ensure meaningful participation and relevance. The shared ambition: technologies that are not only effective, but also humanly sustainable in the everyday textures of care.
