Mihaela obtained her PhD in Machine Learning from the University of Warwick, with her doctoral research focused on developing AI solutions for the biomedical field. Her academic background also includes a Master’s degree in Information Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer and Software Engineering from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca.
Before moving into patent law, Mihaela held the position of Senior Machine Learning Researcher at an Oxford-based startup. In this role, she led groundbreaking research initiatives focused on leveraging artificial intelligence to improve automated analysis of medical images. Notably, Mihaela played a key role in the development of two FDA-approved Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) products, where she also demonstrated her proficiency in generating evidence for clinical validity. Mihaela’s career in technology started as a software engineer at various companies in Cluj-Napoca with a focus on the financial and automotive industries. As a Trainee Patent Attorney at De Vries & Metman, Mihaela leverages her previous academic and professional experience to protect innovation in the ICT, Electrical Engineering and High-Tech sectors.
