About me
Tahsin BAHAR was graduated as a Chemical Engineer (B.S., M.S. and Ph.D.) from Hacettepe University in Turkiye and also performed a “post-doc” study at University of Delaware at USA. He worked for 6 years as a research/teaching assistant at Hacettepe University and has been working as a “Chief Senior Researcher” at the TUBİTAK-Marmara Research Center for 24 years. He has background on chemical process engineering (reaction engineering, process design, process control, etc.), polymer technology (suspension, emulsion, dispersion polymerization, reactive polymers) and enzyme engineering (enzyme characterization, enzymatic reactors and reaction systems, enzyme immobilization, enzyme fuel cells) along with experience on “project management”. He has contributed many scientific projects and scientific publications.

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) is the public agency put in charge of promoting, developing, organizing, conducting and coordinating research and development in line with the national targets of economic development and technical progress. Marmara Research Center (MAM), one of the research and development units of TUBITAK, was established in 1972. The aim of TUBITAK Marmara Research Centre (MAM) is to conduct applied research projects integrated with national and international industrial entities in a customer-focused policy.
TUBITAK MAM Clean Energy Technologies Group involved clean energy production Technologies of biomass, gasification, pyrolysis and their utilization for power and/or valuable gas/liquid fuels or chemicals production technologies. The group accomplishes prototypes/process/pilot or labscale systems through these studies. Some of the research facilities at laboratory and pilot scale levels are given below.
AREAS OF EXPERTISE
- Design and commissioning of biomass gasification systems (fixed bed, bubbling and circulating fluidized bed, entrained bed gasification) from laboratory up to pilot scale
- Design and commissioning of biomass combustion systems (fluidized bed and pulverized combustor) from laboratory up to pilot scale
- Biomass oxy-combustion (atmospheric and pressurized) for carbon capturing applications
- Conceptual and detailed design of biomass pyrolysis systems
- Biomass pre-treatment applications (torrefaction, drying, etc.)
- Liquid fuel/chemicals (Metahanol, olefin and DME etc.) production from synthesis gas (Fischer Tropsch Synthesis)
- SNG production from synthesis gas
- Electrochemical conversion technologies
- Heterogeneous catalyst development, characterization and tests
- Hydrogen production from biomass and different sources/purification technologies
- CO2 capturing technologies
- Catalytic upgrading of pyrolysis oil
- Syngas cleaning technologies for XTL and CHP applications (i.e. tar, sulfur removal)
- Cyclone, heat exchanger and scrubber design
- Solid fuel preparation (drying, grinding, sieving, briquetting and pelletizing)
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling and process simulation
- Utilization of waste products for energy recovery and fuel production
- CHP applications (Organic Rankine Cycle, Stirling Engine)
- Synfuel characterization
- Physical and chemical characterization of solid (coal, biomass) liquid (coal, biomass, char, ash, tar, bio-oil, and gaseous fuels (flue gas, producer gas, syngas, pyrolysis gas)
