About me

My name is Emre Yildirim, from Ankara, Türkiye

My previous education

I completed my bachelor’s degree with 86.93/100 grade-point average in energy systems engineering and got into the 10th percentile in 2016. I did a double major in Materials Science and Engineering and graduated in the same year with a grade of 69.66/100. In addition, I completed a master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Kütahya Dumlupınar University, which I started in 2018, with a grade of 95.10/100 in 2020.

My work experience

My first work experience was between 08/05/2017 and 27/11/2017, I worked as a Quality Control Engineer at Uet Uran Industry Facilities, Erzincan (Turkey). I was responsible for the NDT Coordinator (Audit and Observation), Hydrostatic Test Package, Air Leak Test, Oil Test, and Peaking-Banding Measurement according to API 650 Standards. I have had the opportunity to improve my skills in production, management, and quality.

My second work experience was between 01/06/2018 and 03/01/2019. After deciding on my career as a design engineer, I worked at Ece Holdings / Ece Banyo, Çorum (Turkey), which produces in the ceramics industry. As a Design Engineer, I was responsible for the design of vitrified ceramic products (reservoir, sink feet, sink, etc.) using Autocad and Solidworks. I made drawings of the molds of vitrified ceramic materials designed using Solidworks.

Since I wanted to continue my career in the defense industry, I worked as a design engineer at Yeter Defense and Aviation, Ankara (Turkey) between 05/02/2019–30/09/2020. My responsibilities include creating LATO, HPFM, CTOL, and WLFX tool designs in accordance with aviation standards using CATIA V5, drawing tool designs according to tolerances, and when necessary, designing aircraft parts according to the desired tolerances and dimensions.

My further education and current situation

After a total of 3 years of work experience, I decided to go abroad for new adventures, and I completed my master's program in Global Energy Technologies and Systems Masters/MSc at the University of Birmingham in the UK with merit between September 2021 and September 2022. I successfully passed the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Technology, Fuel Cells Modeling tools and Control, Hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels, Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Storage courses during my master's degree. I worked on "Catalyst Electrode Based on In-Situ Grown Pt and Pt-B Nanowires" in PEM fuel cells in the field of hydrogen technology in my graduation thesis.

After graduation, I came back to my country and started to work as a hydrogen engineer at the Clean Energy Research Institute of the Turkish Energy, Nuclear, and Mineral Research Agency in February 2023. I am working as a energy systems engineer at the Hydrogen Technologies Laboratory of the Clean Energy Research Institute.

In this position, I develop projects in the fields of hydrogen, solar, wind, and energy storage systems in the research and development unit of the institute. Within the scope of my laboratory responsibility, I carry out research and development, innovation, design, production, testing, and localization studies for the scientific, technical, and economic development of clean energy technologies. My areas of work include the development of fuel cell components, fuel cell performance tests, hydrogen production, hydrogen storage technologies, and industrial hydrogen applications. I am working on two projects that I have been the executive of, ‘Development of an Innovative System for the Effective Use of Ammonia Borane as a Chemical Hydrogen Storage Material’ and ‘Development of a 250 kW PEM Electrolyzer’.
