About

The Technical University of Munich (TUM), Chair of Thermodynamics, conducts research on advanced energy conversion, renewable and integrated energy systems, thermal energy storage, sector coupling, and the decarbonization of energy-intensive applications.

Within the Chair, the Solar Research Center focuses on the development, modeling, optimization, integration, and experimental validation of innovative solar and multi-energy systems. Current activities address renewable industrial heat, combined electricity and heat generation, thermal storage, cooling, water-energy integration, hydrogen, and intelligent energy management.

Our approach combines thermodynamic modeling and optimization with experimental validation and industrial-scale translation. We are particularly interested in technologies and system architectures that improve renewable-energy utilization, dispatchability, flexibility, and integration across electricity, heat, cooling, water, and industrial processes.

For CETPartnership, TUM is interested in collaborating with universities, research organizations, technology providers, industrial end users, engineering companies, and demonstration-site operators. Potential cooperation areas include renewable industrial heat, thermal energy storage, integrated multi-energy systems, sector coupling, digital twins and intelligent controls, techno-economic assessment, and pilot/demonstration projects.

Our objective is to bridge fundamental research, experimental validation, and industrial deployment, contributing to scalable solutions for European and international energy-system decarbonization.
