Senior Researcher at NIMP specialising in W-based composites, functionally graded materials, high-entropy alloys and metal–ceramic interfaces for high-temperature energy systems.

My organisation

The National Institute of Materials Physics (NIMP), located in Măgurele, Romania, is a public research organization that covers the development of advanced materials, from fundamental investigation and materials design to processing, characterization, prototype fabrication, and technology transfer. Relevant expertise for clean-energy and industrial applications includes W-based composites, functionally graded materials, high-entropy alloys, protective coatings, and metal–ceramic and metal–metal interfaces designed for high-temperature service, severe thermal gradients, and repeated thermal cycling. NIMP offers advanced materials-processing capabilities, including spark plasma sintering/FAST, hot pressing, microwave-assisted sintering, powder metallurgy and pressure-assisted thermal treatments. Custom tooling enables near-net-shape processing, selective joining, and the fabrication of components with tailored local composition and properties. The institute provides extensive structural, microstructural, thermophysical, and mechanical characterization capabilities, including: • laser-flash thermal diffusivity and thermal-conductivity measurements, including multilayer and interface analysis; • dilatometry and coefficient-of-thermal-expansion evaluation; • simultaneous thermal analysis, DSC/TGA and kinetic assessment; • SEM/EDX/EBSD, TEM, XRD and XRF; • hardness and microhardness mapping; • high-temperature three-point bending and compression testing; • thermal cycling and failure analysis. Computational capabilities include CALPHAD thermodynamic modeling, finite-element thermal and mechanical simulation, component design, and kinetic analysis. For CET Partnership Call Module CM2026-09, NIMP is interested in contributing as an R&D and materials-validation partner in projects addressing integrated industrial energy systems, waste-heat recovery, durable high-temperature components, thermal-interface reliability, CTE-mismatch mitigation, and materials solutions for energy-intensive industries. We are seeking industrial partners from the cement, glass, steel, thermal-energy, and process-engineering sectors, as well as consortium coordinators and technology integrators.

About me

I am a Senior Researcher at the National Institute of Materials Physics, Romania, working on materials for high-temperature and extreme-environment applications.

My research focuses on W-based composites containing ceramic and metallic dispersions, functionally graded materials, high-entropy alloys, thermal-barrier and protective coatings, and metal–ceramic or metal–metal joining interfaces. I am particularly interested in controlling thermal expansion mismatch, thermal stresses, interfacial degradation and mechanical reliability under repeated thermal cycling.

My expertise includes powder processing, SPS/FAST, hot pressing, thermal and thermomechanical treatments, laser-flash analysis, dilatometry, DSC/TGA, microstructural characterization, hardness testing and high-temperature three-point bending.

I am seeking industrial, engineering and research partners for projects on integrated industrial energy systems, waste-heat recovery, high-temperature components, durable thermal interfaces and materials solutions for energy-intensive industries
