Solid Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (SCCUS), Call Module 2026-04

At the German Aerospace Center's (DLR) Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes (DI-LCR), we are developing a CCUS technology together with our partner, the Institute of Process technology, process automation and measurement technology (IPM) at University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz (HSZG). The process is based on a two-step conversion of CO2 and methane via synthesis gas, which is then converted into stable, solid carbon. The technology thus combines CO2 conversion, carbon sequestration, and material production in an integrated process approach.

What we bring:

• Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and material characterization (SEM, XRD) of carbon products

• Expertise in reaction kinetics, kinetic modelling and CFD-simulation of gas-solid systems

• Partner (Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz, IPM) with SCCUS pilot plant (TRL 4)

A key factor for success is the targeted control of the carbon structure, as this plays a decisive role in determining potential applications and value-added potential. For this reason, the close integration of reactor technology and carbon material characterization is an essential part of the development process.

For the next phase of development and demonstration, we are seeking industrial and research partners to further develop SCCUS and evaluate it in industrial applications.
