About

The transition to a sustainable energy future depends on the ability of buildings and local communities to become active, intelligent participants in the energy system. Project SYNERGY (Autonomous and Adaptive Orchestrator for `Net-Zero Energy Communities) aims at developing a comprehensive AI-driven platform designed to transform collections of buildings into resilient, self-sustaining energy communities. It centers on developing an advanced AI platform that transforms neighborhoods of prosumers (in both categories of commercial and residential buildings)—energy consumers who also produce and store energy—into intelligent, collaborative energy ecosystems. The system acts as a central orchestrator, seamlessly integrating distributed energy resources like rooftop solar, battery storage, and electric vehicles.

The project integrates advanced multi-objective optimization, machine learning forecasting, and a high-fidelity community energy digital twin to create a system that autonomously balances economic, environmental, and resilience goals.

By bridging the gap between theoretical potential and real-world application, Project SYNERGY aims to deliver a scalable blueprint for the design, management, and governance of tomorrow’s net-zero energy communities. The platform will enable energy management and peer-to-peer exchange, addressing three key dimensions tailored to individual prosumer needs: 1) Energy savings (on the consumption side), 2) Enhanced efficiency (on the production side), and 3) Energy trading opportunities (on the exchange side).
