Steel-plant CO₂ Utilization via a Flexible Co-Electrolysis Platform for Renewable E-Fuels (STEeL-FLEX)

About

STEeL-FLEX aims to demonstrate, at pilot scale (TRL 5–6), an integrated and flexible electrochemical platform that combines advanced CO₂ capture and modular co-electrolysis to convert real steel flue gas into three renewable e-fuels: methane, methanol, and syngas with controlled H₂/CO ratio. The project seeks to establish a safe, cost-effective and replicable circular carbon pathway for the deep decarbonisation of the steel sector and other energy-intensive industries, enabling the substitution of fossil fuels with clean alternatives.

The consortium and concept are almost closed, as the proposal builds on a project we are currently conducting, funded under the previous CETP call.

We are searching a partner to lead a WP for conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the STEeL-FLEX system through LCA, techno-economic assessment (TEA), total cost of ownership (TCO), supply-chain resilience, and regulatory analysis. Business models and exploitation roadmaps will be developed to support commercial uptake and alignment with EU climate and energy policies.
