The University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (UL FME) is the largest and oldest technical faculty in Slovenia, established in 1919. As part of the University of Ljubljana — ranked among the top 500 universities worldwide — UL FME combines fundamental research excellence with strong industrial collaboration and technology transfer capabilities.
The faculty comprises 15 departments and over 30 specialized laboratories covering the full spectrum of mechanical engineering disciplines, including robotics, automation, manufacturing systems, mechatronics, computer-aided engineering, and computational mechanics. With approximately 200 researchers and 3,000 students, UL FME maintains a dynamic research environment with extensive experience in EU-funded collaborative projects.
UL FME has a proven track record in FP7, Horizon 2020, and Horizon Europe programs, participating as coordinator and partner in numerous research and innovation actions. The faculty operates state-of-the-art experimental facilities and maintains strong links with Slovenian and European industry, enabling effective research validation and technology demonstration up to TRL 6-7.
