About

EVS is the largest European manufacturer of media equipment, employing over 800 professionals. As a global leader in live video technology and knowledge‑driven media solutions, EVS enables real‑time creation, management, and distribution of high‑value audiovisual content. With more than 30 years of continuous innovation, the company has become a trusted technological backbone for major broadcasters, sports federations, and media networks worldwide. Its solutions support the production of the most prestigious live events—including global sports competitions, premium entertainment shows, and 24/7 news operations. Broadcasters and rights holders such as BBC, Al Jazeera, CBS, Disney, Canal+, Warner Bros. Discovery, and leading sports leagues rely daily on EVS systems and cloud services for their reliability, speed, accuracy, and creative flexibility in highly demanding environments.

Through its sister company EVS Portugal, the group has expanded expertise across multiple media‑related technologies, including 3D processing, advanced video coding and wrapping, visualization systems for IoT frameworks, and immersive/accessible media environments spanning AR, VR, and XR. EVS maintains deep technical knowledge in video formats—both encoders and wrappers—and has contributed to multiple international standardization committees.

EVS has a longstanding track record in national and European R&D programs, contributing both technological components and demanding industry‑driven use cases:

Horizon Europe

  • DATAPACT (www.datapact.eu): Building a trusted, interoperable and AI‑enhanced ecosystem for media data spaces. EVS leads a use case on compliance challenges related to emotion recognition using brain–computer interfaces.

  • INTEND (https://intendproject.eu/)::) Bringing next‑generation human‑like intelligence to the cloud–edge continuum. EVS drives the use case on environmentally efficient (“green”) streaming technologies.

  • ENACT (https://project-enact.eu/)::) Enabling secure, dependable, and explainable AI systems throughout the data lifecycle. EVS contributes a complex use case on sports video analytics across the cloud continuum.

  • XRECO: Creating a data-driven ecosystem for the media industry enabling data sharing, search/discovery and next‑generation content creation, including (re)use of 2D/3D location‑based assets and XR experiences.

Horizon 2020

  • ARTICONF (https://articonf.eu/)::) Developing trusted and time‑critical decentralized infrastructures for future social networks. EVS leads a use case on next‑generation citizen journalism with blockchain‑based rewards.

  • 5G City (https://www.5gcity.eu): Deploying a distributed cloud and radio platform enabling municipalities to act as 5G neutral hosts. EVS developed and deployed crowdstreaming use cases in Barcelona and Bristol.

  • SWITCH (www.switchproject.eu): Improving development and execution models for time‑critical cloud applications. EVS used the SWITCH platform to build and operate a cloud‑based virtual broadcasting studio.

  • DATACLOUD: Delivering a novel paradigm for Big Data pipeline processing over the cloud/edge/fog continuum across the full lifecycle of Big Data applications.

  • SCENE: Developing advanced technologies and services covering the complete filmmaking pipeline.

EUROSTARS

  • VALENCE: Delivering contextualized native in‑video advertising (NIVA) by detecting user location and streaming appropriately tailored advertising materials. EVS developed a cloud‑based delivery platform for NIVA‑enabled video.

  • VAPOR360: Innovating in‑video advertising for 360° video by embedding realistic ad objects within immersive scenes and exploring odour‑based product placement. EVS built tools for contextual VR-native product placement powered by scent technologies.

Across these initiatives, EVS has consistently contributed industry-grade media workflows, advanced video technologies, trusted cloud infrastructures, and critical expertise in live production environments. Its participation strengthens Europe’s media innovation landscape, supporting emerging technologies—from XR to AI, Big Data, immersive media and next‑generation content experiences.
