CETIC

Founded in 2001 at the initiative of UCLouvain, UMons and UNamur, CETIC (Centre d'Excellence en Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication) is an applied research center in Information and Communication Technologies, established as a non-profit (ASBL) on the Aéropole site in Charleroi, Belgium. Since 2004, it has been recognized by the Walloon Region as an accredited Research Center (Centre de Recherche agréé).

CETIC's mission is to support regional economic development by transferring the most innovative results of applied ICT research to companies, with a particular focus on Walloon SMEs. The center helps companies integrate technological breakthroughs into their products, processes and services, enabling them to innovate faster, reduce risks, and develop new markets.

CETIC develops expertise in key digital domains including software and system engineering, software and services technologies, embedded and communication systems, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, software quality, trust and security of IT systems, and Artificial Intelligence (machine learning and deep learning). These innovations are applied to sectors of major societal importance such as health, smart mobility, energy and industry.

Initially funded through European FEDER structural funds, CETIC has progressively broadened its scope through European Framework Programmes, Walloon regional research programmes, and the Competitiveness Clusters (Pôles de compétitivité) since their creation in 2005. The center maintains privileged relationships with the university laboratories of the region, keeping its teams at the forefront of research progress.
