CHIMAR is pioneer in the development of technology for bio-based adhesives production and their application as binders in the manufacture of composite wood panels, with expertise since the 1990s. CHIMAR technology encompasses the replacement of the petrochemical feedstocks used in adhesives production with renewable ones, derived from lignocellulosic natural materials, lignocellulosic residues, and wastes. A wide variety of renewable materials have been tested and a non-exhaustive list includes: lignin/lignin products, natural phenols, liquefied biomass, tannins, cellulose (incl. micro-/nano-fibrillated/bacterial/crystalline), starch, chitosan, saccharides, proteins, plant oils, biopolymers, bio-acids, bio-alcohols, bio-aldehydes. CHIMAR expertise extends to the development of novel bio-composite panels using non-wood biomass materials, agricultural and industrial residues as well as recycled materials.
