Call for Partners and Consortium Building in Agrobiodiversity and Crop Wild Relatives (CWR)

Researcher at Baekdudaegan National Arboretum

Bongwha-gun, South Korea

About

We are an institution dedicated to the conservation, utilization, and dissemination of genetic resources. We collect and preserve genetic resources from Korea, and through our seed bank and the Global Seed Vault, we receive seed deposits from around the world, including Asia, thereby contributing to the conservation of biodiversity.

Currently, our research focuses on enhancing agricultural biodiversity in Europe based on crop wild relatives (CWR) and developing new technologies to address food security challenges. We aim to study strategies that integrate underutilized crops in Europe with Korean traditional knowledge, thereby increasing farmers’ income through new technologies while simultaneously enhancing agrobiodiversity.

The specific areas we are currently considering are as follows. These may be added to or modified depending on the call:

  1. Promotion and dissemination of CWR through networking

  2. Identification of breeding materials and development of agroecological technologies through GxExM research on CWR and landraces

  3. Expansion of farmers’ income opportunities through the development of processing technologies for CWR and landraces

  4. Risk management and pest/disease prediction using AI models
