Disease Ecologist & One Health Expert for CL6-2027-01-BIODIV-06

Associate Professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev

Midreshet Ben-Gurion, Israel

About

I am a disease ecologist with over 25 years of experience studying host–vector–pathogen interactions through integrated field, laboratory, molecular, and modeling approaches. My research examines how environmental change, climate, biodiversity, and human activities shape zoonotic and vector-borne disease risks. I lead a unique field-to-lab experimental system manipulating entire wildlife–vector–pathogen communities and currently coordinate a One Health project on livestock–human–wildlife interfaces and antimicrobial resistance in urbanizing environments. I aim to contribute empirical, ecosystem-based evidence and mechanistic insights to CL6-2027-01-BIODIV-06 consortia addressing biodiversity–infectious disease links, including drivers of pathogen diversity, rapid pathogen evolution, and relationships between pathogen diversity and disease risk. I can also develop and implement benchmark protocols and science-based indicators to assess exposure risks to parasites and pathogens, including zoonoses, in both wildlife and humans.
