About

BETA Technological Center (https://betatechcenter.com/) is seeking to join a consortium preparing a proposal for HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-ZEROPOLLUTION-02: Bioremediation of Ukraine’s ecosystems contaminated by conflicts. BETA brings a multidisciplinary approach that integrates soil science, applied ecology, nature-based solutions (NBS), and governance to address complex contamination scenarios. The Sustainable Food & Farming Systems Unit contributes strong expertise in soil health assessment, land degradation analysis, and sustainable land management, with a focus on restoring soil functions in agricultural and semi-natural systems. This includes evaluating soil physical, chemical, and biological properties, designing remediation strategies adapted to contaminated soils, and assessing their feasibility under real land-use conditions. Complementing this, the Applied Ecology & Global Change Unit provides demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of Nature-Based Solutions for ecosystem restoration. The unit applies ecological principles to develop biologically driven remediation approaches enhancing ecosystem resilience while reducing pollutant impacts. The Governance for Sustainability Unit adds a critical enabling dimension by supporting institutional coordination, policy alignment, and stakeholder engagement in complex socio-environmental contexts. This includes facilitating dialogue between public authorities, land managers, and local actors, and ensuring that remediation strategies are socially acceptable, policy-relevant, and scalable.

Together, BETA can support consortia by contributing to: (i) integrated assessment of contaminated soils and ecosystems; (ii) co-design of nature-based and biologically driven bioremediation solutions; (iii) evaluation of environmental effectiveness, risks, and scalability; and (iv) governance and stakeholder frameworks that support implementation and long-term ecosystem recovery in post-conflict settings.

Projects related to this area of expertise include: Seacure, DeliSoil, Biobass and AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB. For more detailed information, take a look at the following webpage: Sustainable Food & Farming Systems / Applied Ecology & Global Change / Governance for Sustainability.
