About

BETA Technological Center (https://betatechcenter.com/) is seeking to join a consortium preparing a proposal for HORIZON-CL6-2026-02-FARM2FORK-11: Integrating a holistic perspective in microbiome research for resilient, competitive and sustainable food systems. The Applied Ecology & Global Change Unit at BETA can coordinate and lead microbiome analyses across different environmental matrices (specifically water). The unit applies advanced ecological and molecular approaches to assess microbial diversity, function, and interactions, integrating the effects of environmental stressors, land-use practices, and climate change on microbiome dynamics. This expertise supports the identification of microbiome-based indicators of ecosystem resilience and guides the design of interventions that enhance sustainability and productivity. Complementing this, the Sustainable Food & Farming Systems Unit can contribute by assessing soil health (including microbiome), crop performance, and sustainable production systems, ensuring that microbiome insights are applied to practical agricultural management. This includes evaluating soil fertility, nutrient cycling, and the role of farming practices in maintaining or enhancing beneficial microbial communities. Together, the units provide a holistic, systems-level approach, linking microbial ecology with farm-level sustainability, circularity, and productivity. By combining molecular-level microbiome research with applied agroecology, BETA can support the development of strategies that enhance food system resilience, reduce environmental impacts, and improve competitiveness. The center is ready to contribute to data generation, analysis, methodological coordination, and practical application, making it a strong partner for multidisciplinary consortia addressing this topic. Projects related to this area of expertise include: NutriBudget, Seacure, SURE-AMR, GREENHOOD, DeliSoil.
