Fast growing hardwoods for buidling with wood - CL6-2026-01-CIRCBIO-09
Professor at Ghent University
Ghent, Belgium
About
An increased interest in building with wood should not only be based on current timber products and wood based panels. Using complementary material from fast growing hardwoods like hybrid poplar from plantations and agroforestry should enable to enhance the potential of bio-based building products for a more sustainable building sector. Long lasting harvested wood products are a key item related to carbon sequestration. Furthermore this could underpin the option to introduce such aspects in countries outside Europe, e.g. in the tropics, linking in such wider perspective fast growing trees and building with wood as component for increased sustainability approaches of forests.
