Energy Citizenship & Just Transition — Engaging Vulnerable Communities

Project manager at Comparative Research Network

Berlin, Germany

About

Expertise: CRN has a strong track record in the social dimension of the energy transition. Through projects such as Powering Citizens, we developed methodologies for engaging energy-poor households, mobilising joint energy action, and empowering citizens in the energy transition process.

What we offer:

  • Inclusive engagement frameworks: Methods to involve marginalized and vulnerable groups — e.g. households experiencing energy poverty — in decision-making and local energy governance.

  • Capacity building: Training curricula for “Energy Guardians” or community advisors, building local capacity to understand, influence, and manage energy transition.

  • Policy labs & multi-stakeholder dialogue: Facilitation of deliberation between citizens, municipalities, energy providers to co-create fair, just transition pathways.

  • Communication & social impact: Outreach, dissemination, social readiness assessment, and participatory governance tools to ensure transparency and acceptance.

Our role:

  • Partner focusing on SSH, Citizen Engagement, Social Innovation, Communication & Dissemination, Social Impact Assessment, Participatory Governance.

Ideal for consortia under:

  • Cluster 6 destinations such as “Resilient & inclusive communities”, “Innovative Governance”, “Just transition of local / rural / urban energy systems”, or “Energy democracy & social justice in the green transition.”

Why CRN:
We fill a critical “social & justice” gap: combining technical energy transition with real people — especially those at risk of being left behind — ensuring fair, inclusive, and democratic transitions.
