About me

My name is Anwar. I began my academic journey with a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology Engineering from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. I then completed both my M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Environmental Biotechnology at the Technion’s Faculty of Environmental Engineering. My work focused on the biotransformation of nitrogen compounds from water and wastewater.

From 2021 to 2023, I conducted postdoctoral research at Tel Aviv University and the Technical University of Munich. During this time, my work focused on the removal and transformation of organic contaminants in groundwater and porous media (soil matrix) using advanced oxidation processes.

My academic background combines environmental microbiology, biotechnology, and environmental chemistry.

Since November 2023, I'm in position as an early-career researcher (Principal Scientist) at the Volcani Research Center. My research focuses on soil microbial communities, particularly phosphorus-solubilizing and nitrogen-transforming bacteria. The goal is to develop green methodologies that enhance microbial activity and improve crop productivity. In addition, part of my research addresses environmental challenges such as the bioremoval of contaminants from water and soil.
