We develop processes for production of food‑safe alternative proteins​

Production of alternative proteins through fermentation - Host strain and fermentation development for both biomass and precision process scale-up. Experienced in bacterial, yeast, fungi and microalgae processes, including mycoprotein production toward the development of “whole cut” products.​

Extraction of protein from alternative feedstocks – Development of efficient and cost-effective downstream processes for biomass and protein recovery, separation and purification from plants, invertebrate, microorganisms and fungi.​

Sustainability of food systems– Experience with sustainable feedstocks including fermentable sugars from forestry and farm waste to produce alternative proteins As well as fermentation. A provider of Life cycle (LCA) and Techno-economic (TEA) analyses.​

Process scale-up​

• Food-grade upstream and downstream process development and scaling from 1 mL to 400 L in our Novel Food Innovation Centre, enabling process demonstration and production of food-safe samples for formulation and consumer acceptability testing.​

• Processing Engineering Support: process design, operation, process modulation & simulation and process safety.​

Production of single cell protein for feed – proven capability through our National Industrial Biotechnology Facility (up to 2 × 750 L capability available).​

Food Safety ​

• Dedicated food and feed safety team and quality manager, experienced and qualified HACCP team, FSSC22000 and FDA registered food business, ​

• Support of EFSA regulatory submissions including 5 representative ​

• batches and material for toxicological testing. ​
