About

HORIZON-CL6-2025-01-BIODIV-07.

Why do we need to understand the holobiont-based coral by metaproteomics to answer this call? Integrating metaproteomics and holobiont studies into ecosystem restoration can offer realistic insights into microbial functions in the environment and host-microbe interactions, enhancing restoration strategies.

  • We offer advanced metaproteomics expertise to study holobiont function and resilience in coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass ecosystems.

  • Our contribution focuses on identifying stress biomarkers, microbial pathways, and functional protein signatures to support early detection, restoration planning, and climate adaptation strategies.

  • We propose including proteomics-driven tools to guide the zoning of marine protected areas, biogeochemical mapping, and land-sea planning.

  • Using thermal proteome profiling and microbiome analysis, we can uncover adaptation mechanisms in symbiotic systems under environmental pressures.

  • Our methods are applied in a Water4all project to decipher the drivers of harmful algal bloom holobionts.

Impact & Deliverables to contribute to a consortium for this call:

  • New biomarkers for early detection of ecosystem stress, enabling proactive conservation efforts.

  • Standardized functional ecosystem health metrics for global conservation initiatives.

  • Microbiome-based interventions (e.g., beneficial bacteria) to enhance climate resilience in corals, seagrasses, and mangroves.

  • Policy-ready tools for sustainable marine and coastal ecosystem management.
