Bring the fish back to Mariagerfjord - HORIZON-CL6-2025-01-ZEROPOLLUTION-03
About
Due to many years of pollution from industry and agriculture, and the particular shape of Mariagerfjord, the biodiversity is challenged. The inlet is very narrow and shallow, and further inland, the fjord is deep and wide. This means that the water is exchanged very slowly and therefore the restoration will take many decades.
We want to turn a problem into a resource. Every year Mariagerfjord experiences algal blooms. If we could turn these algal blooms into biomass usable as fertilizer, biofuel or bioplastics, then we could clean up the fjord, create value, create new jobs and improve biodiversity.
