HORIZON-CL6-2025-01-BIODIV-10 Supporting the implementation of nature restoration measures for sustainable farming systems
Founder and Network Weaver at Korowód Bioregional Center
About
This call presents an opportunity to regenerate agricultural landscapes through a network of Bioregional Centers that serve as living labs of sustainable land stewardship. Each center works in close collaboration with farmers, landowners, cooperatives, and rural actors to co-design and implement nature-based restoration strategies grounded in agroecology, agroforestry, and regenerative agriculture.
Using the Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) approach, these centers align ecological restoration goals with the everyday realities of food production, water management, and rural economies. Bioregional mapping provides a participatory foundation for identifying landscape dynamics, pinpointing degraded or high-value areas, and guiding collaborative decision-making. This ensures that restoration efforts are informed by both scientific data and lived experience, and that they respond to local needs, capacities, and aspirations.
The centers also support peer-to-peer learning and demonstration across diverse farming contexts, facilitating exchange between farmers, researchers, and practitioners. Activities include piloting of agroecological corridors, riparian buffer systems, silvopasture, and other nature-based solutions that enhance biodiversity, restore soil and water cycles, and improve climate resilience all while maintaining or improving farm viability.
This work contributes to EU policy goals including the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the Biodiversity Strategy, the Soil Mission, and the Farm to Fork Strategy. By embedding restoration into working landscapes, the Bioregional Centers create models of sustainable farming that are socially inclusive, ecologically sound, and economically viable.
