Placenet is a Spanish technology company developing Internet of Places (IoP), a new digital infrastructure that connects people, services and physical environments according to location, identity, role and real-time context.
Our technology creates a digital layer for any physical place — from cities and public spaces to transport systems, venues, buildings or critical environments — enabling organisations to activate relevant information, services, communications and interactions specifically for the people who are present there.
Unlike traditional digital channels, which are primarily organised around websites, apps or individual services, Placenet makes the physical place itself a digital access point and communication environment.
For disaster resilience and emergency response, we are developing new applications of this technology focused on resilient and contextual communications. Our objective is to enable public authorities, emergency services and citizens to maintain or restore bidirectional communication when conventional communication channels are disrupted, overloaded or unavailable.
Placenet can provide the application and contextual communication layer on top of resilient connectivity infrastructures such as private 4G/5G networks, mesh networks, satellite communications, edge infrastructure or other alternative communication technologies.
The platform can determine which information, alert or service should be delivered according to factors such as physical location, affected area, user role, identity and real-time context. This allows communications to be geographically segmented and operationally relevant during an emergency.
The same infrastructure can also support citizen-to-authority communication, enabling people within affected areas to report incidents, request assistance, access emergency information or interact with public services.
Placenet is interested in collaborating with European technology companies, telecom operators, mission-critical communication providers, emergency management organisations, research centres and public authorities to develop and validate next-generation resilient communication systems.
We are particularly interested in complementary technologies related to 5G/6G, private networks, mesh communications, satellite connectivity, edge computing, IoT, emergency communications, early warning systems, critical infrastructure, backup energy and urban resilience.
Our goal is to build interoperable solutions that combine resilient connectivity with a contextual digital communication layer and validate them through real-world pilots involving cities, public authorities and emergency-response organisations.
