CIRCUTRACE – Smart Circular Electronics through AI, IoT and Blockchain-Enabled Traceability

NEWCO S.A., a Greek technology SME specialising in Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity and trusted digital infrastructures, is seeking European partners to jointly develop a Horizon Europe project proposal under HORIZON-CL6-2027-01-CIRCBIO-01 – Enhancing ecodesign and circularity of consumer electronics.

The Challenge

Electronic products generate increasing amounts of waste due to limited repairability, short product lifecycles, insufficient component traceability and difficulties in recovering valuable materials. Manufacturers, repair operators and recyclers often lack reliable information on product composition, condition, repair history and reuse potential.

Our Project Idea

CIRCUTRACE aims to develop and demonstrate more durable, repairable and recyclable consumer electronics, supported by secure digital technologies that improve product lifecycle management and circularity.

The proposed approach combines:

• Circular product design: Improved repairability, modularity, disassembly, component reuse and recyclability.

• AI-driven analytics: Product condition assessment and decision support for repair, reuse and remanufacturing.

• IoT/NFC-enabled identification: Identification and monitoring of products and components throughout their lifecycle.

• Blockchain-based traceability: Secure, verifiable records of product origin, components, maintenance, repairs and recovery processes.

• Industrial demonstrations: Validation of circular design solutions with electronics manufacturers, repair operators and recycling organisations.

• Lifecycle assessment and circular business models: Evaluation of environmental performance, consumer benefits and new approaches supporting longer product lifetimes.

NEWCO's Proposed Contribution

NEWCO can contribute blockchain-enabled digital provenance, IoT/NFC integration, AI-supported analytics, cybersecurity, secure data exchange, platform integration and technical validation.

The company brings experience from Horizon Europe projects, including COMFORTage and ENFIELD, as well as proprietary digital technologies such as COTIC Blockchain Infrastructure and Smart Shielding.

Collaboration Opportunity

CIRCUTRACE is an early-stage concept open to co-design with interested partners. We are particularly interested in organisations capable of leading product ecodesign activities and industrial pilot demonstrations.

NEWCO intends to participate as a technology development and integration partner rather than project coordinator.

Beyond this opportunity, we welcome long-term, reciprocal consortium cooperation and opportunities to participate in partners' upcoming Horizon Europe proposals.
