Solalis Bio is a Kyoto-based biotech startup developing GMP-compatible biomaterials that make cell and exosome therapies more manufacturable — from expansion through cryopreservation.

What we do
Cell therapy developers lose potency and yield at two points: during culture, and during freeze–thaw. We design chemically defined, xeno-free media and reagents that address both.

• StemDesign™ — MSC expansion and preconditioning media. Beyond simple growth, our formulations condition MSCs toward defined functional profiles (immunomodulatory, angiogenic), giving developers control over potency rather than leaving it to donor variability.

• ELSSA OSFree™ — cryopreservation solution containing no DMSO and no substitute organic solvents. Most "DMSO-free" products simply swap in another organic solvent; ours does not use them at all, eliminating that class of infusion toxicity and the associated wash-step burden.

  • Also validated for exosome/EV preservation. We have successfully extended the ELSSA platform from cells to extracellular vesicles — one solvent-free chemistry covering both modalities, which matters as EV products move toward the clinic and face the same excipient scrutiny.

• EV / exosome production media — free of insulin and other highly bioactive additives. This removes a significant safety and regulatory concern for EV products intended for clinical use, while maintaining yield and consistency.

• In development: xeno-free GMP media for T cells and NK cells.

We already have distribution in Japan, China and Taiwan. Europe, North America and the rest of the world are open — no partner appointed yet.

2. Users — cell therapy companies, CDMOs and academic labs willing to evaluate our media and solvent-free cryopreservation solution on their own cells
