Aerosol dosing of inhaled products onto human airway epithelium — patented in vitro nebulization assay (EP-4186547)

About

Delivered the way it is delivered in the clinic. Most in vitro work on inhaled products applies the compound in solution to a well. We nebulize it onto reconstructed human airway epithelium cultured at the air–liquid interface, under our patented in vitro airways nebulization assay (European patent EP-4186547).

What this lets you ask

•    Does the formulation reach and act on human airway tissue as intended?

•    How does the device or formulation compare with an alternative, on the same tissue?

•    Is there local tolerability or inflammatory response at the delivered dose?

Models available

•    Reconstructed human airway epithelium at the air–liquid interface

•    Human precision-cut lung slices, viable to 28 days, for interstitial and fibrotic questions

•    Calu-3 airway epithelial line, for inflammation and mechanistic work

•    Primary human lung fibroblasts

Read-outs. Viability, barrier integrity, cytokine release by ELISA and multiplex, RT-qPCR, whole-transcriptome RNA-Seq, histology and immunostaining.

We would like to meet inhalation device developers, inhaled formulation teams, and companies who would like to pair a device with a human-tissue read-out — as a contract study or as a jointly developed platform.
