CODI - Robot-Assisted Echocardiography

CODI is a clinician-guided robotic platform for cardiac ultrasound (transthoracic echocardiography). A collaborative robot arm, directed by the sonographer through a haptic controller, performs the physically demanding parts of the scan while the clinician retains full diagnostic control. This targets two pressing problems in echocardiography: a global shortage of sonographers and high rates of work-related musculoskeletal injury, which CODI reduces by cutting repetitive scanning force on the operator by up to 90%. CODI is designed to increase echo throughput by roughly 20% per sonographer and to help injured staff return to full duties. The platform holds ISO 13485 and IEC 60601 certification and is classified as a Class I device under the UK UKCA framework. It is in active clinical evaluation with NHS staff at University Hospital Southampton, where all four standard TTE views have been achieved and sonographers trained in under eight hours. Cobionix is raising a USD 20 million Series A to expand multi-site UK clinical studies and prepare for commercial scale-up.
