I’m Mengqian, I am an Associate Professor and meanwhile serve as the Director of the Otto Poon Centre for Climate Resilience and Sustainability at HKUST.

She is the Chairman of The International Association For Hydro-Environment Engineering And Research – Hong Kong Chapter and the Founder and Chair of The Climate, Weather and Water Forum (CWWF).
Her research spans five key areas: Atmospheric Rivers, Moisture Recycling Networks, East Asian Monsoon, Extreme Weathers, and Water Resources Management. Her work has garnered significant recognition, including being the Annual Featured Contribution to Water Resources Research (WRR) and highlighted in AGU Research Spotlights, Nature’s Research Highlight, and as multiple cover page articles in npj Climate and Atmospheric Science and Communications Earth & Environment. Her papers are among the top downloaded and also as Most Read by AGU journals and on ResearchGate, reflecting their broad impact.
Mengqian is a three-timeGold Medallist at major international innovation exhibitions, having won awards in Hong Kong (2023),Geneva (2024), and again in Geneva (2025). Her profound insights into atmospheric rivers and climate-related extreme weather have attracted significant media attention, leading to interviews with NEWSWEEK and the BBC.
