Phase-change materials for tunable photonics

Assistant Professor at Brno University of Technology

About

Brno University of Technology (Dr. Filip Ligmajer) offers advanced research capabilities in the design, nanofabrication, and optical characterization of volatile and non-volatile phase-change materials (VO2, Sb2S3, GST) integrated into free-space metasurfaces and photonic integrated circuits (PICs). We are seeking academic and industrial partners to form or join consortia for upcoming EU funding calls focused on reconfigurable flat optics, optical computing, and spatial light modulation.

Core Technological Capabilities:

Phase-Change Material Synthesis & Integration: Thin-film deposition and nanostructuring of active phase-change platforms) exhibiting reversible phase transitions with high optical contrast across VIS and NIR.

Tunable Free-Space Metasurfaces: Design and experimental realization of inverse-designed all-dielectric metasurfaces for dynamic spatial/temporal light modulation.

PIC Integration: Heterogeneous integration of active PCM nano-layers onto small-scale dielectric waveguide platforms for low-loss optical switching, neuromorphic computing, and dynamic routing.

Nanofabrication & Characterization Infrastructure: Access to state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities and advanced diagnostic tools (see nano.ceitec.cz.
