DAPHNE Sanremo
About
La Maison DAPHNÉ Sanremo, founded in the 1960s, embodies Italian savoir‑faire and style. It signs the “modafiori” collection, inspired by botanical prints from the Riviera and archival designs preserved in its corporate museum.
Today, the artistic direction of the Maison is led by Monica and Barbara Borsotto, who continue the tradition of floral prints through meticulous archival work. They design, adapt and modernise an accessory — the foulard — which has already lived through countless uses and styles; now reinvented beyond traditional codes and embellishments to encourage spontaneous elegance through original prints and ethical fabrics.
DAPHNÉ collections create a bridge between past and future, blending tradition with innovative design. The Sanremo‑based brand, now a spokesperson for environmental and social sustainability, pays special attention to the environment and to fine, biodegradable fibres such as orange fibre, wood fibre, organic cotton and broom fibre, all sourced within Italy.
Colour, elegance, botanical prints made with non‑polluting dyes depicting the flora of the region, and artisanal techniques that enhance them, come together to create collections that guide the industry toward responsible fashion. This includes craftsmanship such as the hand‑rolled “roulottage” technique used to finish the edges of the foulards. Preserving ancient artisanal skills is also a powerful tool for sharing knowledge: DAPHNÉ is committed to this through social work projects, entrusting the hemming of foulards to women hosted in refuge centres (developed through the “Scarpette Rosse” project) and to inmates in correctional facilities as a symbol of redemption (through the “Rispetto” project).
Being sustainable also means living in connection with nature and one’s territory. The guiding principle is the selection of artisans who adopt concrete actions in fabric production and reduce water consumption in manufacturing processes, safeguarding workers’ health — because sustainability is also social responsibility. The same vision applies to natural dyes, experimenting for example with broom flowers, mulberry leaves and pastel blue leaves.
