Détails

More accurate identification of individuals at risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) through the appropriate use of biomarkers could lead to earlier initiation of preventive therapies and potentially avoid sometimes fatal events and complications during anesthesia. Arterial stiffness is currently one of the best biomarkers for early and independent prediction of cardiovascular events.

The inventors are proposing a simple, reliable method for measuring pulse wave velocity (PWV), or carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWVcf), as this index is a key determinant of left ventricular afterload. The invention takes the form of software integrated into the multiparameter monitor used to monitor patients during anesthesia, continuously estimating and displaying a pulse wave velocity value.

The invention brings two major innovations:
- The continuous, non-invasive and simple obtaining of a reliable value of the PWV during patient monitoring during anaesthesia is an added value for decision support (improved maintenance of a stable BP) and for guiding therapeutic strategy.
- This parameter can also be used as a biomarker for cardiovascular risk screening. The prospects in terms of public health are significant, since early identification of cardiovascular risk not only meets a market need, but above all enables us to minimize the impact on patient morbidity and mortality, predict risks and adapt treatments.
