About me

Dr Luis Romeral joined the Electronic Engineering Department of the UPC in 1988, where he is currently Full Professor and UPC Rector’s Delegate for EU-KiC EIT Manufacturing (since 2023). His research interests include Electric Machines, Power Electronics converters, Design and Control of Electrical Powertrains and Fault Detection and Fault Tolerant Motor Drives, in the fields of Electric Mobility and Energy Management.

Dr Romeral is founder and director of the Motion Control and Industrial Applications UPC – MCIA Research Center since 2003. The Group’s major research activities concern the permanent magnet motor drives and electric powertrains, AI-based fault detection and diagnosis of industrial equipment, electric vehicles and energy efficiency (https://mcia.upc.edu/en). The Group is also active in high voltage systems and non-destructive test and predictive maintenance. Also, Dr Romeral is the cofounder of the spin-off The Predictive Company, that offers SaAS solutions based on AI for energy efficiency. He held a total of 11 patents and copyrights in subjects related to electric motors, mecatronics and energy management, two of them under exploitation. His current industrial activities include also teaching and consulting in electric drives and electric mobility.
