About
Wheely-go is an innovative smart wheelchair-sharing system developed by a Catalan company with support from the European Union. It transforms any standard wheelchair into a connected, trackable mobility device using integrated indoor and outdoor GPS sensors. This allows real-time location tracking and efficient fleet management in hospitals, public buildings, and transportation hubs.
The system works through a user identification process—patients or companions borrow a wheelchair by providing a unique ID (such as a phone number), which enables traceability and accountability. If misuse occurs, compensations can be claimed.
Key features of Wheely-go include:
-
Real-time tracking and geofencing with anti-theft alerts and alarms.
-
User interface screen on each wheelchair for information and alerts.
-
SMS notifications to companions’ phones.
-
Borrowing time limits and movement restrictions based on location rules.
-
Data monitoring for usage, maintenance, and resource optimization.
-
Integration-ready platform to plug into existing processes (security, reception, maintenance).
-
Pay-by-use model using Wheely-go’s PaaS infrastructure.
A successful pilot at a Polish hospital showed that 4 Wheely-go chairs could replace 12 standard ones, with all units returned and none stolen—proving both efficiency and security.
The system is now being showcased at MWC and aims to expand to museums, shopping centers, stations, and airports.
