My research focuses on the use of pathogenic genomic sequencing to enhance the diagnosis of infectious diseases and to explore host-pathogen interactions
I am an assistant professor at Jimma University.. I am currently a PhD student, and my PhD thesis focuses on Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing (mNGS) for meningitis in Ethiopia. I was also involved in nationally and internationally funded research projects on infectious diseases. Through my involvement in transnational and multidisciplinary projects, I have gained valuable insights into different research environments and improved my ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams. For example, through my involvement in the European Commission's EDCTP (Project: 101103188 - EpiGen Ethiopia - HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2022-01), I gained a comprehensive understanding of the applied and fundamental research principles of genomic sequencing of pathogens
