Voliro T for Wind Turbine LPS Inspection

About

The Voliro T is a robotic inspection drone equipped with a precision needle probe payload, purpose-engineered to make stable physical contact with wind blade receptors at height.

By flying directly to each receptor, the system eliminates the need for cranes, scaffolding, civil works, and the logistical overhead that has defined traditional LPS testing. What once required days of site preparation can now be executed in a single flight.

What makes the Voliro T genuinely unique is the complete measurement circuit it closes when it does.

The Voliro T carries a tether cable that runs from the blade receptor all the way down to the LPS Ground Station positioned at the tower base, which is in turn connected to a certified grounding point. This end-to-end electrical path enables a full 4-wire resistance measurement fully compliant with IEC 61400-24 the international standard governing lightning protection for wind turbines.

Voliro T delivers actual milliohm resistance readings for every receptor on every blade. A certified ohmmeter at the ground station records each measurement in real time, with every data point automatically linked to the correct receptor position. Operators receive a complete, traceable dataset giving maintenance teams the precision they need to identify degradation early, prioritise intervention, and demonstrate compliance with confidence.

For wind farm operators and independent inspection providers alike, the implications are significant. The elimination of crane rental alone removes one of the largest cost line items in traditional LPS testing.

Combined with the removal of civil works requirements, reduced logistics overhead, and the ability to complete a full three-blade inspection in one single flight, the Voliro T fundamentally redefines what compliant, quantitative LPS testing costs and how frequently it can realistically be conducted.
