About me
Richard Coutts, BA Hons, Dip Arch, MEng, FRIBA, ARB, UDG, is a British architect and co-founder of BACA architects, best known for his pioneering work in flood-resilient design. A lifelong advocate for building communities that can live with water, Richard’s expertise has been recognised internationally through award-winning projects such as LifE (Long Term Initiatives for Flood Risk Environments).
Actively working in Europe, Saudi Arabia, Africa and South East Asia.
His insights were sought after Hurricane Katrina, when he was invited to New Orleans by the Department of Homeland Security and Preparedness to advise on recovery and future flood prevention strategies. He remains closely connected to New Orleans, and the lessons from that experience continue to shape his work today.
