My organisation
About me
My career has been driven by a deep commitment to addressing the world’s most pressing challenges—climate resilience, water management, and sustainable urban development.
I am one of the initiators and in the steering group of the Floating Future Research Project, the largest research project on floating solutions in the world, with 44 partners, which recieved 5.3M Dutch government funding.
With a background in engineering and water management, I’ve evolved from researcher to entrepreneur. Now, as co-founder of Blue21, I’m at the forefront of pioneering floating urban development as a bold, interdisciplinary solution to rising sea levels and urbanization.
🔹 Milestones Along the Way
Technical Foundations & Innovation: I built my expertise in civil engineering and water management, enabling me to tackle complex challenges at the intersection of water systems, technology, and urban spaces. At Blue21, I create projects that integrate advanced engineering, ecological stewardship, and social dynamics to design resilient, adaptable cities on water.
Governance & Social Acceptance: Over the years, I’ve developed a deep understanding of governance structures and the importance of community engagement. My work emphasizes the need for social acceptance to ensure the long-term viability of innovative urban solutions.
Global Impact & Practical Applications: By translating groundbreaking research into real-world projects, I’ve collaborated with governments, communities, and industry leaders to create impactful solutions. Notable examples include:
-
Floating Pavilion, Rotterdam: An example project showcasing sustainable floating architecture and climate-resilient urban development.
-
Floating Housing, Harnaschpolder Delft: An innovative residential solution that harmonizes water retention with modern living.
-
Bluelands Floating Tiny Office: A pioneering model of self-sufficient, floating workspaces that integrate renewable energy at TU Delft Green Village.
