Floating Pools

In 2007, in collaboration with Polyplan and Space lab a first floating pool with biological water treatment was planned and subsequently operated. This pool was so well received by the Gothenburg population that the city of Gothenburg decided to install a more extensive system here. New planning will then take place from 2021 to 2022. The new facility was then built from 7/2022 to 6/2023.

As a world first, the saltwater of the Baltic Sea lying beneath the freshwater lens was tapped here. The planned basin is open at the bottom and protrudes deep into the saltwater lens. During operation, the fresh water is then evacuated from the basins and the heavy deep water with a salinity of 10 to 30 g/l rises.

The rising Baltic Sea water opens up a window into the "ocean" of clear, clean water with its typical saltwater biocoenosis.
