Modular on-site PFAS concentration + destruction skid (In validation phase))

Co-founder & CTO at Prometheon

Den Hoorn, Netherlands

About

Prometheon is developing a containerized, modular wastewater treatment skid engineered to destroy per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) permanently on-site. Designed to hook directly into existing industrial wastewater lines (with landfill leachate as the initial proving ground), eliminating consumable filtration media, toxic secondary sludge, and cross-border hazardous waste hauling.

The system integrates a two-stage closed-loop destruction train inside a standard ISO container:

  • Media-Free Foam Fractionation: Rising micro-air bubbles leverage the surfactant physics of PFAS molecules to lift and concentrate them from bulk water, achieving a roughly 1,000:1 volumetric reduction without consumable carbon beds, resins, or chemical additives.

  • Gliding Arc Plasma Mineralization: The concentrated foamate is vaporized and fed through a continuous, non-thermal electrical plasma arc. High-energy electrons cleave the resilient carbon-fluorine (C–F) bonds, converting the target compounds into benign calcium fluoride (CaF2) minerals, trace carbon dioxide, and water vapor with verified total fluorine mass balance and zero atmospheric emissions.

By treating the concentrated foam rather than bulk water, Prometheon insulates the destruction reactor from high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and aggressive salts typical of dirty industrial matrices. Delivered under a turnkey Treatment-as-a-Service (TaaS) model, Prometheon eliminates upfront customer CAPEX and replaces volatile off-site hauling bills with an immediate, recurring operational cost saving.
