The University of Oulu is a well-ranked science university with 8 faculties, 14 200 students, and 3 800 employees. We offer a high-quality learning experience to our students (ISB 2023). We also explore the ethical and societal implications, ensuring AI serves human's best interests. \- 5G/6G & future networks: Our dedicated research centers are pioneering advancements in 5G and laying the groundwork for 6G, focusing on ultra-reliable, low-latency communication, massive IoT, and network intelligence crucial for enabling autonomous systems, and distributed AI. \- XR & immersive technologies (AR/VR/MR): Our state-of-the-art immersive labs support researchers and students to create applications in training, simulation, data visualization, remote collaboration, and digital twinning, transforming industries from healthcare to engineering. \- Edge computing & distributed intelligence: The university spearheads innovation in edge computing architectures. We design resilient, efficient, and secure edge solutions that bring computational power closer to data sources in remote environments, and smart infrastructure. \- Arctic science & environmental futures: We conduct technology-enhanced research into climate change impacts, polar ecosystems, sustainable resource management, and resilient northern communities. We leverage AI, remote sensing, and advanced communication technologies to monitor and understand this critical, rapidly changing region.
