Positium is a private limited liability company registered in Estonia, with its headquarters in Tartu, Estonia, EU. The company was founded in 2003 as a spin-off of the University of Tartu. Positium analyses anonymous mobile positioning data to produce statistical insights into human mobility, including the movements of the population and tourists. Our services include consultancy, developing, providing and maintaining the technology and methodology for processing data, analysing the data for specific projects, setting up cooperation models with mobile net- work operators, national statistics offices, other governmental institutions, and data aggregation services. Positium develops high-quality technology – methodology, software and expertise – to process mobile positioning data (MPD) for insights into the spatio-temporal behavior of human beings. Our technology provides the best understanding of the spatial aspects of human society and is used by governments and the private sector in faster, data-driven, and reliable decision-making that brings the world closer to a sustainable existence. Our competencies and R&D interests include a broad spectrum of areas such as data security, privacy-enhancing technologies and solutions for overcoming data security, big data challenges for the telecommunications sector and government critical services. We have wide experience working for clients from the European Union and beyond, as well as with different data providers. Over the course of Positium’s existence, we have worked on projects in the fields of population statistics, tourism, mobility data, and crisis management. The quality of our methodology has been recognised by the UN Statistics Division and helped make us a member of the UN Committee of Experts on Big Data and Data Science’s Task Team on Mobile Phone Data. Positim focuses on adapting new technologies, such as public blockchain, zero-knowledge proof and web3 to companies existing products and services.
