MEDARDAS COBOTAS UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE

MEDARDO ČOBOTO TREČIOJO AMŽIAUS UNIVERSITETAS (Medardas Cobotas University of the Third Age) (further MCTAU) was founded in 1995 in Vilnius, Lithuania. It is a non-governmental organization, the activity of which ensures a better social integration of seniors into society, promotes their effective, productive and purposeful life and supports their working capacity as well as their physical activity and mental health.

MCTAU currently has over 2500 older adults-students of different nationalities from Vilnius city. The students at MCTAU can choose their learning subjects and lectures from a wide range of programmes offered by 12 faculties of the University such as Foreign languages, Literature, Handicrafts, IT, History, Culture, Artistic expression, Tourism, Health, Music, Social psychology, Politics, Law and economy.

MCTAU advocates for refreshing and obtaining a higher level of knowledge and skills promoting volunteering among students and teachers/ lecturers. Senior volunteers exchange their life-time experience and promote all kinds of activities against premature ageing. Apart from lectures, teachers and students at MCTAU organize exhibitions of handicraft, take an active part in sports competitions, visit theatres, museums, concerts, work in the Botanical garden in spring and autumn, organize numerous trips inside the country and abroad, arrange song and dance festivals, organize summer camps for all association members of the Lithuanian U3As etc.

MCTAU has been engaged in a number of activities, such as participating in European projects (Erasmus+, Nordplus) as well as those suggested by the Lithuanian Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Security and Labour, Lithuanian Council for Culture, Vilnius city Municipality. Areas of specific expertise: adult learning, training and consulting services, different types of activities to promote silver economy provisions and ageing activities.

The seniors of the MCTAU come from all spheres of life, they all have extremely rich life experience and competences and can successfully contribute to project goals and creation of project’s IO.

The project ideas meet the goals of our university and will help to promote, adopt and implement holistic perspective for a better quality of ageing life of seniors of our country.
