About

People in Peril (PiP) stands as a non-governmental, non-profit entity with a central mission: to extend unwavering assistance to those most in need. In the face of circumstances beyond their control, PiP extends its helping hand to individuals robbed of their dignity and freedom.

Whether they grapple with the aftermath of conflict, endure the ravages of natural disasters, or find themselves trapped under undemocratic regimes, PiP steps forward.

The roots of this organization trace back to 1999 when a cohort of journalists, deeply moved by the human toll of the Kosovo conflict, banded together to establish PiP. Their humanitarian response revealed an imperative to create an institution capable of swiftly addressing emergent global crises. Up until 2016, the organization operated as a civic association.

From its inception, PiP has been dedicated to aiding crisis stricken individuals within Slovakia itself. Since the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine, the organization has been providing assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia, as well as internally displaced people in Ukraine. For two years now, we have been offering psycho-social support to individuals fleeing the war in Ukraine, regardless of their age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. Our goal is their effective integration into society, promoting well-being, and fostering connections between these individuals and the majority, while also raising awareness within the majority community.

The organization's scope also encompasses the support of marginalized communities afflicted by poverty. PiP cadre of community and social workers engage with children, teenagers, and adults, providing education, vocational counseling, fostering financial literacy, digital proficiency, and assisting beneficiaries in constructing decent living arrangements.

Furthermore, the organization advocates for requisite changes in public policies to bolster these objectives. Through its educational endeavors, we contribute to the cultivation of a more inclusive, tolerant, and open society within Slovakia. The cornerstone of our operations could be classified into three pivotal domains: Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, Social Inclusion, and Global Education.
