About Science & Startups
Science & Startups is the network of startup services of the Berlin University Alliance, consisting of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. By pooling the resources of these three major Berlin universities and Charité, Science & Startups creates a unique, internationally visible university startup ecosystem.
About the Berlin University Alliance
The four partners have joined forces to further develop the science location Berlin into a joint research space that ranks among the international top. At the heart of this collaboration is the joint exploration of major societal challenges, strengthening dialogue with society, promoting young talent, addressing issues of research quality and value, and overarching projects in research infrastructure, teaching, diversity, equal opportunities, and internationalization. The Berlin University Alliance is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the State of Berlin as part of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and the Länder.

Local Energy Transition - Photovoltaics and Energy-efficient Renovation of Municipal Properties
The admi team combines extensive experience in collaborating with cities, municipalities, and other government institutions with comprehensive expertise in the technology sector. This enables the development and provision of solutions specifically tailored to the needs of municipalities - empowered by modern technologies.
What drives us time and again is the fact that municipalities, as the representatives of the state at the local level, are responsible for implementing climate protection measures. However, employees in the administration often receive insufficient support for this. Especially considering the multitude of tasks that have emerged in recent years, there is a need for more offerings to facilitate work at the local level.

Software solutions for utilizing curtailed energy
If production exceeds demand or network capacity, renewable energies must be throttled, resulting in green energy loss. To monetize this energy, neXtract Energy develops machine learning models predicting local throttling of wind and solar parks. Through its software dashboard, the company offers optimization algorithms for various energy storage technologies and use cases, increasing the utilization of storage technologies like batteries or electrolyzers and generating additional revenue.

Develop more renewable energy projects faster
The expansion rate of renewable energies (RE) in Germany needs to triple from 2022 to 2026. Project developers lack skilled professionals and suitable software to enable this growth.
We support project developers from site evaluation to identifying investors for shovel-ready projects. Our software automates essential steps of the development process and connects developers with relevant stakeholders.
In the first step, we integrate necessary data for site evaluation, community engagement, and grid capacity into a user-friendly web GIS platform. For project developers, this saves time, reduces costs, and increases the likelihood of project implementation.

Boosting Efficiency – Sustainable for Businesses and the Environment
The refrigeration technology alone accounts for 15% of the electricity demand in 2,000 hospitals and 30% in 30,000 data centers in Germany. In parts of the food industry, manufacturing, cold storage facilities, and event centers, the share is even higher. The total demand amounts to approximately 16% of the annual electricity consumption in Germany.
FACTOR 4 SOLUTIONS enables all operators of refrigeration systems to reduce energy consumption by 20% to up to 75%. This is made possible through a combination of software and hardware, utilizing a technology-agnostic, universal, knowledge-based system controller (AI).
Customers can specify their optimization target size either fixed or dynamically in real-time, such as operating costs, energy consumption, or even CO2 emissions, and the system controller takes care of the rest.
