MilaK Bio is a UK biotechnology company developing precision-fermented, animal-free bioactive milk protein systems for longevity, healthy ageing, metabolic resilience and next-generation medical nutrition.

Our mission is to harness the biological functionality of naturally occurring milk proteins and combine it with advanced precision-fermentation technologies to create scalable, sustainable and scientifically validated bioactive ingredients for human health.

Unlike conventional nutritional proteins, MilaK is focused on biologically active proteins with specific functional properties. Our initial development programme includes high-value bioactive proteins such as lactoferrin and alpha-lactalbumin, with the platform designed to expand into additional proteins, species-specific molecules and synergistic multi-protein systems.

Our technology combines engineered microbial production systems, fermentation optimisation and downstream processing with the development of targeted bioactive protein formulations. Potential applications span longevity and preventive health, metabolic health, bioactive nutrition supporting the rapidly growing GLP-1 market, immune health, functional and medical nutrition, sports nutrition and healthy ageing.

MilaK has progressed through Innovate UK-suported R&D, establishing the scientific and technical foundations of its precision-fermentation platform. We are now entering the next stage of development, focused on food-grade fermentation, process optimisation, pilot-scale production, downstream processing and functional validation, with the objective of developing a robust and commercially scalable manufacturing process.

The company operates from an R&D base at Discovery Park in Kent, UK, and works with a multidisciplinary network of biotechnology specialists, academic researchers, analytical laboratories, clinical and functional validation partners, formulation experts and commercial collaborators.

Alongside technical development, MilaK is building its intellectual property portfolio and regulatory and commercialisation strategy. Our business model is primarily B2B, with the platform designed to supply differentiated bioactive ingredients and systems to companies operating across longevity, metabolic health, functional foods and medical nutrition.

Early commercial engagement has resulted in signed Letters of Intent from pharmacies and health clinics operating within the GLP-1 and metabolic health market, subject to successful product development and validation, providing initial market evidence for the commercial potential of MilaK's technology.

MilaK is currently advancing its Seed financing round to support technical validation, food-grade scale-up, regulatory development and commercialisation, while simultaneously expanding strategic R&D and commercial partnerships internationally.

As part of our next development phase, MilaK is particularly interested in establishing a UK–Singapore R&D collaboration to accelerate food-grade precision fermentation and pilot-scale development. We are seeking complementary Singapore expertise in areas including bioprocess development and optimisation, fermentation scale-up, downstream processing, analytical and functional validation, formulation and commercial manufacturing.

Regulatory development is being progressed in parallel with MilaK’s technical and commercial programme. The company is developing its regulatory strategy for bioactive proteins and finished applications across relevant food and nutrition categories, including novel food considerations, safety and quality requirements, and pathways for functional and medical nutrition applications. Regulatory planning is being integrated with food-grade process development, analytical characterisation, functional validation and formulation to ensure that the evidence generated during pilot development supports subsequent regulatory submissions and commercial market access in the UK and internationally.

Our ambition is to build MilaK into a globally scalable biotechnology platform creating a new generation of bioactive protein systems for healthier and longer lives, while enabling sustainable production without dependence on conventional animal agriculture.
