About me
With over three decades of experience in US higher education, I am an empathetic leader dedicated to fostering inclusive leadership, strategic planning, and community engagement. My expertise spans intergenerational leadership, participatory problem-solving, policy development, and adaptability. Grounded in Black Feminist social justice scholarship, my work centers on creating inclusive, equitable environments that empower marginalized communities and advocate for transformative organizational change, offering hope for a better future. As co-editor of African Americans and Community Engagement in Higher Education (SUNY Press, 2009), we outlined a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and multiregional approach that allows all stakeholders to deeply understand and reflect on the impact of African American identity in the academy and the community, inspiring hope for a transformative future.
As a Professor of Educational Leadership and Special Assistant to the Provost for Strategic Directions at Seattle University, I have led significant curriculum redesigns, founded the Center for Social Transformation and Leadership, and spearheaded the evolution of the doctoral program and the university's promotion and tenure process. These initiatives have not just changed SU programs and policies but have profoundly impacted the communities we serve, driving meaningful, authentic change that has inspired others to follow suit.
My leadership philosophy is deeply rooted in humility, compassion, and recognizing each individual's unique talents. I am dedicated to fostering collaborative, liberatory workplaces and facilitating critical conversations that inspire transformative action, engaging everyone in a shared mission. My research, practice, and partnerships all revolve around developing and implementing inclusive leadership practices that build equitable environments for historically marginalized communities.
