SONDA network - Data acquisiton for solar and wind energy resource assessment
Professor at Unifesp - Federal University of Sao Paulo
Santos, Brazil
About
The SONDA Environmental Data Network has the following key goals:
-
To generate and improve the ground truth database required for surveying solar and wind energy resources in Brazil
-
To train young researchers and professionals to work in the area of the climate-renewable energy interface,
-
Develop studies in both the variability of solar and wind energy resources through statistical analysis of field data in conjunction with model data, and in the operation and maintenance of data collection stations and their sensors.
-
To assist in energy planning for supporting the growth of solar and wind energy participation in the national energy mix.
Large-scale investments in these energy sources, not only in Brazil but worldwide, require adequate and reliable information on their availability and variability.
